Momma Bird

So, we have this robin's nest on the porch light by our back door.  Yes, it's tied on with twine due to the robin egg accident we had a few months ago....One day, the kids and Jeff were out back, the momma robin was in her nest, nesting on her three eggs.  One of the kids ran by on the patio and spooked m.r. (momma robin ;), she flew out of her nest so fast that she caused it to fall off the light and hit the step below.  All of the eggs fell out of the nest and broke on the porch.  :(  We were so sad for her.  Jeff put the nest back up and we cleaned up the eggs.  Madison ran to her room crying, we were all bummed.  M. r. came back to her nest, I don't think she realized what had happened at first, but as the days went on, she didn't come back.

:)  A few weeks ago a new m.r. started using the nest and layed three eggs.  I love robin eggs, they are so beautiful.  I'm pretty sure it's a different m.r. this time because this one keeps her beak open almost all of the time, the other m.r. didn't do that.  Unless, it is the previous robin and she's just aquired a new habit, who knows???  Anyway, we're happy to have her living here with us, even if she does scare the heck out of us when we walk out the back door and she takes off from her nest like a comet!!  She likes to skwak at us and keep a close eye on us when we're in the backyard.  Ashton has a good view of her looking up at the nest from our dining room window, he's the perfect height.  It will be interesting to see what happens when the babies hatch from their eggs....
